Rug Cleaning in Myers Park

Collection and delivery in Myers Park are included. We take the rug back to the workshop, wash it properly, and bring it home.

The Houses

What Myers Park is built from

Developed after 1911 on what had been the John Spring Myers farm, and laid out with curving streets rather than the grid the city had been using. Colonial Revival, Georgian, Tudor and Craftsman houses set back on deep lots between Queens Road, Providence Road, Sharon Road and Park Road, most of them with original oak floors and rooms sized for a rug rather than for wall-to-wall.

Long-held houses, a lot of second and third owners, and formal rooms that are still furnished as formal rooms. This is where the good hand-knotted work in Charlotte tends to be, and a fair amount of it predates the house it is lying in.

What We Find Here

The Myers Park problem

Water arrives here from above the ground rather than through it. The western side of the neighborhood runs down to Little Sugar Creek and Freedom Park, and the eastern edge falls toward Briar Creek, and both of those creeks drain a watershed that has been almost completely built over since these houses went up. Rain that used to soak into lawns now runs off roofs, drives and streets and reaches the channel in minutes, so a single summer thunderstorm can put a creek several feet up and back down again inside an afternoon. What ends up in a lower-level room or a sunroom on the low side of a lot is not clean rainwater: it has crossed asphalt, storm drains and yards to get there, and it is carrying everything it picked up. A rug that takes that water needs flushing rather than drying, and the clock on a wet wool foundation in a Carolina summer is short. The other half of the same story is quieter — a slow rise of humidity in a low room that never actually floods, which reads as a faint cellar smell in a rug nobody has lifted in ten years.

If that sounds like your rug, send the form and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you whether it needs the full treatment or not.
